Norris Leads Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has beaten his teammate at each of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the championship lead from Piastri by one point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, trailing with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, ended up in 17th position as his team ran a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, though minor, when he spun at the fourth corner during the early running.
The Japanese spun out over the curbs on exit before spinning across the gravel trap, and was fortunate to escape with just a light touch of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the conclusion of the session, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho corner before the final bend on to the pit straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th place, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, 0.619 seconds behind Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
